Ten answers
Before you write to us
- What exactly is a detour?
- A detour is a short trip out from a city you were already going to visit. It is usually within two hours each way by train, bus or car, and it changes the character of the day rather than replacing your main destination.
- Do I need a car to follow these guides?
- Usually not. Most detours and routes are built around regional trains and buses, because that is how the majority of readers travel. Where a place genuinely only works with a car, the practical notes on the article say so.
- Are you telling me to skip famous places?
- No. Skip The Obvious is about what to see alongside the famous place, not instead of it. Go to Venice. Then take the boat down the lagoon and see the working version of the same landscape.
- How do you research your guides?
- Each guide starts with transport connections and seasonality, then draws on regional tourist boards, municipal and site opening information, and local press. We publish honest travel times, including the bad ones.
- How current is the information?
- Guides are reviewed on a rolling basis, but timetables, prices and opening hours change constantly. Always confirm the critical details with the operator or the site itself before you travel.
- Can I book anything through Zglobtroter?
- No. We are an editorial publisher, not a travel agency. We do not take bookings or payments, and we cannot amend or cancel a reservation made elsewhere.
- Do you accept paid placements in articles?
- No. Editorial content is never sold. Advertising space on the site is clearly labelled and kept visually separate from guides. If any commercial relationship ever affects a piece, it will be disclosed on that piece.
- How can I advertise or partner with you?
- Write to us through the contact page with a short outline of the campaign and the audience you want to reach, and we will send current formats, placements and availability.
- Can I suggest a detour you have missed?
- Please do. The most useful suggestions include the anchor city, how you reached the place, roughly how long it took, and what made it worth the journey.
- May I republish your text or photographs?
- Not without permission. Our editorial text is protected, and photography is used under the terms of the relevant licences. For syndication or reuse, contact us with the details of what you need.
