In their words
What the long way round felt like

Warsaw, travels with her partner twice a year
Detours
We had already done Paris properly, twice, so the idea of going back felt a bit flat. The Paris Detour page gave us Canal Saint-Martin and Belleville and honestly that weekend felt like a different city. Buttes-Chaumont on a Sunday morning was the highlight.

Prague, solo traveller, mostly by train
Routes
The Vienna to Prague route with the longer way round was exactly the kind of thing I keep meaning to plan and never do. Telc was worth the awkward connection. Two extra days, much better trip.

Manchester, family of four
Planning Experience
Useful without being overwhelming. I liked that the planning pages tell you how much time a detour actually eats, because with kids that matters more than the scenery. We cut one stop and the trip worked much better for it.

Rotterdam, weekend traveller
Destinations
I live half an hour from half of these places and still found two towns I had never bothered with. Deventer on a market day was a small revelation.

Milan, photographer
Routes
Used the northern Italy scenic route as a loose frame rather than a strict plan. The stop suggestions between the lakes and Verona were solid and not the usual copy paste list you see everywhere.

Vienna, retired, slow travel
Travel Ideas
The One Destination, Three Ways idea changed how I look at a map. I now sketch the classic line first and then deliberately break it. Some routes still end up direct, and that is fine, but at least it is a choice now.

Lisbon, first big multi-stop trip
Detours
Sintra and Cascais in the same few days sounded like too much until I read the timings here. It was not. Very practical writing, no fluff.

Hamburg, travels for work and stays on
Destinations
I extend business trips whenever I can and this is the only guide I have found that thinks in terms of what is one hour away from where you already are. Added Haarlem to an Amsterdam trip on a whim, no regrets.

Bologna, weekends by regional train
Routes
The Bologna to Perugia zigzag was written by someone who has clearly waited on those platforms. Gubbio was quiet and beautiful and I would never have thought of it.

Edinburgh, road trips with friends
Travel Ideas
Good honest advice about when a longer route is not worth it. Half the value here is the site telling you to take the motorway sometimes.

Copenhagen, travels alone often
Planning Experience
I planned a five stop trip in about an hour using the plan your trip page as a checklist. Flights, one base, two side trips, and the ground transport bit I usually forget until it is too late.

Barcelona, cycling and coastal trips
Detours
Besalu and Cadaques in one write up, with realistic timings. That is the whole reason I keep coming back to this site instead of scrolling through the same twenty listicles.
